PREVIOUS EVENTS
Latispánica organizes an event called “LatinFax” which brings together the Hispanic community in a day of celebration and integration of the Hispanic culture.
The LatinFax Festival celebrates Latin American culture through captivating dances and performances from various countries. In addition, Latino-owned businesses feature their delicious food and unique products.
This event is a heartfelt celebration of our diverse cultural heritage and holds special significance for the Latino community. It’s the only festival of its kind in HRM, offering a unique opportunity for us to share our rich traditions and connect with the local community.
Latispánica organizes an event called “Gala Latina” which brings together the Hispanic community in an evening of celebration and integration of the Hispanic culture.
The Gala Latina is an evening for communities to get together, enjoy exquisite Latin dishes and watch live Hispanic cultural entertainment by the Latispánica Cultural Association and several local groups.
In addition, during the event we hold a silent auction. The proceeds go towards organizations that provide aid to children in communities who are abandoned or live in extreme poverty in different Latin American countries and Halifax. Every year we choose a different country to support.
2023 GALA LATINA
In honour of Chalice, Pukavy Site, located in Luque, Paraguay.
Latispánica successfully raised $1,670 through our silent auction, and we are thrilled to have donated these funds to Chalice.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to all our donors, volunteers, and everyone who helped make this achievement possible. Your support truly made a difference!
Voces de la Pandemia is a touching digital book that captures the lived experiences of the Hispanic community in Atlantic Canada during the COVID-19 pandemic.
This project, funded by CLARI (Research Action Lab) and the Nova Scotia Government through the Cultural and Youth Activities Program, was brought to life through the dedicated collaboration of Andrés Arteaga from Saint Mary’s University and Magali Dam Mazzi from Dalhousie University and Latispánica Cultural Association.
The heart of this initiative lies in the participant-authors who shared their personal stories, supported by mentors like Sonia Thon, María Soledad Paz-MacKay, Cristina Gómez, and María José Yax-Fraser. The book’s rich narratives were translated and edited by a committed team of students and professors from regional universities ensuring the texts resonate with a local audience. Additionally, regional Latin artists such as Carlos Carillo, Jon Slamovitz, and Claudia Vila provided illustrations, enriching the cultural tapestry of the book. With contributions from graphic designer Viviana Mora and students Andrea Sanchez and Andrea Bioko from SMU, the project also featured a comprehensive multimedia presentation, further engaging the community through social networks.
